Interleukin-1β is the key mediator of the body’s response to microbial invasion, inflammation, immunological reactions, and stress response. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to investigate the correlation between cold-stress and the gene expression or interleukin-1β and produce grouper (Epinephelus coioides) recombinant interleukin-1β (rIL-1β) and to investigate the effects of rIL-1β in the immune response of marine fish. rIL-1β was produced by yeast In vitro experimental trials showed that a concentration of rIL-1β at 1×10-9 M could promote grouper leukocyte superoxide anion production. In contrast, cortisol (dexamethasone) suppressed the superoxide anion production in the leukocytes. Furthermore, with the concentration of rIL-1β reached to 1×10-7 M, it could recover the inhibitory effect of dexamethasone on leukocyte superoxide anion strength. Therefore, we produced a bioactive grouper rIL-1β and may enhance grouper immune system. |
