Subtidal macroalgal abundance and species compositions were determined in Green island and in Orchard island in April and October 2006. Thirteen species of 4 chlorophytes, 2 phaeophytes and 7 rhodophytes were identified in Green island. The species number, % cover, diversity and evenness of macroalgae have no seasonal and site differences in Green island. The date of MDS and ANOSIM test showed that macroalgal assemblage is no different between 2 sample site and between 2 sites in Green island. Eleven species of 3 chlorophytes, 1 phaeophytes and 7 rhodophytes were identified in Orchard island. Significant differences in macroalgal community between seasons and between sites are also found in Orchard island. The community of macroalgae has difference, and Kai-Yuan is higher than Yunnyen in species number and % cover of macroalgae but no difference in diversity and evenness.
From 2004 to 2006, the biodiversity study was conducted from four sites at Orchard Island and Green Island. A total of 598 crustacean individuals and 4753 mollusk individuals, respectively representing 52 species and 86 species, were caught during the study period. On the intertidal crustacean fauna, Eriphia scabricula was the most dominant species followed by Actaeodes tomentosus and Pseudozius caystrus. Trapezia septata was the most dominant species among the subtidal crustacean fauna. Four species, i.e. Trapezia rubridactyla,Trapezia tigrina, Percon affine, and Cymo deplnatus, are new record to the crustacean fauna of Taiwan. On the gastropod fauna, Morula granulata was the most abundant followed by other four species, i.e. Mitra paupercula, Thais aculeate, Conus ebraeus, and Conus sponsalis. A total 11 species , i.e. Haliotis planate, Chlorostoma xanthostigma, (Nerita chamaeleon, Rapa incurve, Strigatella pica, Conus sponsalis f.nanus, Umbraculum umbraculum, Echinolittorina quadricinta, E. melanacme, E. radiate, and Muricodrupa fiscella, are new record to Taiwan.
The greater part of fishing boats and fishery activities centralized at NanLiao fishery harbor of Green Island. The reef fisheries resources seem to be exhausted in Green Island waters today. The greater part of fishing boats centralized at KaiYuan fishery harbor of Orchard Island. From January to October in 2006, a total of 1083 individuals, 1532 kg catches of coral-reef fishes, which belong to 75 species, 40 genera, 17 families were recorded from Singang Fish Market by fishing boat to Green Island water. In 2006, a total of 5949 individuals, 7120 kg catches of coral-reef fishes, which belong to 108 species, 48 genera, 21 families were recorded from Singang Fish Market by fishing boat to Orchard Island water. Two field trips to Green Island water investigated a total of 102 individuals, 57.6 kg catches of coral-reef fishes, which belong to 41 species, 26 genera, 15 families. Two field trips to Orchard Island water investigated a total of 315 individuals, 127 kg catches of coral-reef fishes, which belong to 47 species, 34 genera, 23 families. Diving fishing already become the most threatening fishing method in Orchard Island. |
