In order to reduce the bycatch rate of sea turtles for tuna longliner, the circle hook was used to meet the promotion requirement of international fisheries organizations. A total of 6 and 2 commercial fishing vessel were chosen to carry out the experiments of circle hook 1000 hooks per voyage in Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, respectively. The results obtained from the observers’ recording data indicated that the catch rate had no negative influence by using circle hook but the survival rate of it had a better efficiency. However, the results also indicated that the purpose of using circle hook to reduce the bycatch rate did not appear an expected performance. The reasons were needed to further discuss in future. |
