Utilizing biodiesel as alternative fuel for diesel engines, the brake specific energy consumption differs little while the smoke level decreases with higher bsNOx emissions and lower bsCO emissions. Utilizing biodiesel, the components of incompatible material in engine fuel system must be replaced. Compared with fishing boat fuel A, the cost per unit energy of B5 fuel only increases 5~6% while the bsNOx emissions increases slightly. The possibility of potential durability problem is lower for B5 fuel. It is therefore recommended to use B5 while impelling fishing boats to use biodiesel fuel.
Upon using dimethyl ether as alternative fuel for diesel engines, the bsEc differs little while the bsNOx level decreases with nearly smoke free emissions but higher bsCO emissions. It is not feasible at this stage to use dimethyl ether as alternative fuel due to too-high cost per unit energy and too many refitting items reqired for diesel engines. |
