Based on the findings from the project of “Study of electrical safety and communication interferences on fishing vessels” in 2007, this research will further analyze power planning on fishing vessels. The fishing vessel normally uses many nonlinear loads with high variations that may cause a harmonic problem and its power system requires high electrical safety and stability that is slightly different from the power system used in lands. Harmonics may cause malfunction on equipment or decrease life duration of equipment, even possibly damage the insulation. One of the problems needed to investigate on a modernized fishing vessel is how to effectively save energy. In addition, the electrical environment of a fishing vessel is complex because there are many electrical facilities and electronic devices used on boards. Research has shown electromagnetic radiation may have a potential effect to harm human health and decrease life duration of equipment. As a result, this research will compare computer simulations and in-situ measurements based on the standard of non-ionizing radiation protection to investigate the electromagnetic environment. Hopefully, a stable and safe environment of power usage on fishing vessels can be built to increase fisherman’s safety. |
