The main purpose of this project is to better standardize the CPUE trends of albacore resources dwelled in the Indian and the North Atlantic Oceans.? The main tasks of this year are to concentrate the areal-time specification based on the catch by major tuna species and effort statistics of Taiwanese longline fisheries operating in the North Atlantic Ocean, as well as taking into consideration on timely fluctuation in the SST (sea surface temperature) distribution, to better standardize the albacore CPUE trends in the Indian and the North Atlantic Oceans.
Preliminary results so far obtained indicated that (1) the Indian albacore showed a cyclic fluctuation at a stable level since 1990; (2) the North Atlantic albacore showed a moderate decline trend since mid-1980s, yet there appeared an increasing tendency since last few years. |
