Coastal fishery is an important resource and is a major business in the domestic cultured fish production. However, severe pollutions occurred recently and threatened the fishery production. This study investigates heavy metal??concentrations (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd and Hg) in oyster and fish tissues in aquaculture area of coastal Taiwan. We will collect samples (mainly oyster and a variety of fish) from Hsinchu, Changhua, Yunlin, Chai, and Tainan area. Samples will be analyzed bi-monthly and reported to the funding agency. Fishes from Tungkung River, Luermen River and nearby agricultural areas are also analyzed for heavy metal and PCDD/Fs to investigate status of organic pollutants in that area. Hoping industrial activities showed signs in threatening the nearby marine environment. This research will also study the dgree of pollution that Hoping industry act upon the marine environment. We will analyze impacts of heavy metals and PAHs on the fishery in the area; perform ecological risk assessment; and to synthesize a long-term marine environmental monitoringand management plan. Storm water flow through the newly constructed Keelung River Yuansantz storm outlet may have major environmental impact, especially fishery resources and coral reefs. This project will initiate a pilot study this year to evaluate the degree of changes over the water quality, coral and other fishery resources after the storm outlet are used.
????The result show that
(1) HsinChu: Copper concentration of oysters in HsinChu area were higher than other aquaculture area of western Taiwan. Oyster's copper and zinc conc. on Jan and Mar were as same as last year. The lowest copper and zinc conc. were on Jul and Sep among last 3 years, but lead and cadmium conc. were highest on Mar.
(2) Changhua: Copper conc. of oysters of Changhua were highest on Jan, especially station Fubao. Zinc conc. of oysters are still decreasing from last year, but lead conc. are increasing from 2005, especially station Fangyuan was highest lead and cadmium conc. of Changhua area.
(3) Chai: Oyster's heavy metal conc. of Chai area were highest on Jan and Mar, especially GuoGou and Budai. There are higher copper and zinc conc. than last two year. Heavy metal were more accumulated in organs than tissue of fish.
(4) Yunlin &Tainan: Copper conc. of oysters were highest in Chihu, Yunlin and lowest in Anping southshore, Tainan. Oyster's copper conc. of Tainan county were highest among last six year. PCDD/Fs conc. of Luermen River were higher than last year, but lower than EU limited value.
(5) Hoping harbor: Water quality was not varied. PAHs conc. of sediment were highest at station P3. Fish organ's PAHs conc. were higher than tissue, especially Frigate tuna. Zinc and PAHs conc. of clams were highest inside the harbor.
(6) Yuansantz storm outlet: the storm outlet were not used because of only two typhoon invaded Taiwan and precipitation in typhoon invasion period were low. Study of water quality and coral reef this year give us the background information as storm outlet are not used. |
