Fin fishes and shell fishes collected from Keelung Bi-Sha (northern part of Taiwan), Hsinchu Nan-Liao (north central part of Taiwan), Taichung Wu-Gi (central part of Taiwan) and Pingtung Dong-Gang (southern part of Taiwan) fishing port in spring, summer, autumn, winner during March to December 2006 were used to monitor butyltin compounds pollution in fishes caught along the west coast of Taiwan. Body length (g), body weight (g), crude water content (%) and crude lipid content (%) of all samples were measured. Butyltin compounds include monobutyltin (MBT), dibutyltin (DBT), tributyltin (TBT), and tetrabutyltin (TeBT) in dorsal muscle and internal organs were determined. Fishes collected from Keelung Bi-Sha fishing port were Trichiurus sp., Psenopsis sp., Dentex sp., Polydactylus sp., Babylonia sp., and Lanella sp.. Fishes collected from Hsinchu Nan-Liao fishing port were Trichiurus sp., Psenopsis sp., Dentex sp., Polydactylus sp., Babylonia sp., and Lanella sp.. Fishes collected from Taichung Wu-Gi fishing port were Trichiurus sp., Acanthopagrus sp., Nematalosa sp., Psettodes sp., Dentex sp., Psenopsis sp. sp., Pampus sp., and Polydactylus sp.. Fishes collected from Pingtung Dong-Gang fishing port were Trichiurus sp., Psenopsis sp., Acanthopagrus sp., Polydactylus sp., Psettodes sp., Dentex sp., and Pennahia sp..
In the first season (spring) concentration of butyltin compounds in the dorsal muscle and internal organs were 15.0 ~ 363.0 ng/g (dry wt.) and n.d. to 363.0 ng/g (dry wt.), respectively. In the second season (summer) concentration of butyltin compounds in the dorsal muscle and internal organs were n.d. to 954.7 ng/g (dry wt.) and n.d. to 632.8 ng/g (dry wt.), respectively. In the third season (autumn) concentration of butyltin compounds in the dorsal muscle and internal organs were n.d. to 490.9 ng/g (dry wt.) and n.d. to 188.7 ng/g (dry wt.), respectively. In the forth season (winter) concentration of butyltin compounds in the dorsal muscle and internal organs were 22.9 to 240.5 ng/g (dry wt.) and 33.6 to 236.1 ng/g (dry wt.), respectively. There was a trend that concentration of total butyltin (MBT+DBT+TBT+TeBT) increased gradually in fishes collected from north to south in the first season, but the trend was reversed, e.g. concentration of total butyltin (MBT+DBT+TBT+TeBT) decreased gradually in fishes collected from north to south in the third season. There was no obvious trend in other two seasons. Except in fishes collected in first season in Keelung Bi-Sha fishing port, among the four butyl compounds, MBT constituted the highest concentration, DBT took the second place. Few fish contained TeBT. |
