In this study, we assembled the application of VMS on offshore fisheries resource management for US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, EU, Japan, South Africa, Peru and Malaysia. Except for motoring vessel positions, US, Austria and New Zealand applied VMS to implement the fishing area and TAC control for specified species. In addition, we collected the data of fishing location, catch and effort from 956 fishing sets of 6 fishing vessels for Sergestid Shrimp. The data collected from some vessels were not completed. VMS would improve incomplete fishing information and could be used to verify the fishing data. Moreover, VMS could be applied to monitor total catch for implementing TAC or IQ management. |
