In recent years, more and more countries are taking steps toward seafood safety and eco-labeling legislation and certification processes. As a result, HACCP and Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) principles and criteria are the most acknowledged and world-wide accepted standards. In this study, the most up-to-date progresses of marine eco-labeling among international communities, as well as their trends, managerial measures are discussed. Although Taiwan has yet to develop its own code of conducts for establishing eco-, or environmental friendly marine species management and certification procedures, it is necessary that we take efforts to understand how other countries or groups have achieved in these aspects. Furthermore, we shall be ready to evaluate some marine species, such as sakura shrimp, for their potential as a landmark for Taiwan marine eco-labeling initiative.. |
