A useful LC-MS-MS method for measuring 11 veterinary drugs in catfish and chicken intestines were developed. The method described in this report is useful for determining residues of these veterinary drugs at levels lower than the established tolerances. Farm-raised catfish Clarias spp.(n=18)and chicken intestines(n=12)were collected from aquaculture areas located in Taiwan. Approximately 88 percent of catfish, 75 percent of chicken intestines contained no detectable residues of 27 veterinary drugs. Furthermore, residues of four heavy metals (mercury, cadmium, arsenic and lead) were below federal action limits. This research is the most comprehensive survey of aquaculture products, and demonstrates the low levels of contaminants in catfish fed on chicken intestines. |
