Based on the catch sampling and questionnaire analysis, this study attempted to understand the fishing efficiency and species composition characteristic of larval anchovy fishery by different fishing gear. All the data sets are collected from Kengfan and Tansui. The results showed that during spring of 2007, the economic benefit in April is higher than that in May in Kengfan, but it is a reverse condition in Tansui. In addition, when catching large amount of larval anchovy, the increase of the rate of returns of investment is quite limited. Thus, implementing the TAC (Total Allowable Catch) management on larval anchovy in every day may sustain or increase the unit price. It may implement a sustainable utilization of this fishery resource and can also prevent the resource from wasting.
The compositions and rates of by-catch are varied in terms of time progress and different waters. In the Kengfan water, the rate and species number of by-catch are higher in summer (Aug.) than that in spring and autumn. In Tansui water, the by-catch rates was daily and seasonally changed (from 2.8 to 33.9%), and species number of by-catch is also relatively high in spring. |
