Studies were carried out on the 24 veterinary drugs and 6 heavy metals in catfish and poultry offals. Farm-raised catfish Clarias spp.(n=35)and chicken offals(n=10)were collected from catfish farm located in Chiayi area, Taiwan. The great number of samples with banned veterinary drug residues (Chloramphenicol, Malachite green and Metabolites) was found in muscles of the catfish, and Chlortetracycline in chicken offal. It was stated that probably in some cases catfish farmers do not respect regulations about withdrawal periods of the veterinary products. Residues of six heavy metals (copper, zinc, mercury, cadmium, arsenic and lead) were below EU and federal action limits. The article also described the risk of veterinary drug residues in poultry offal used to catfish pond by hazard identification, hazard characterization, exposure assessment and risk characterization. |
