The most important fishery around Kaoping canyon water was sergestid shrimp midwater trawl. However, it involved with higher bycatch rate. In order to avoid the higher bycacth rate caused by such fishery then further influencing the fish resources in this area, it was necessary to modify and manage the structure of fishing gear properly for sustainable utilization. This study was prompted to use the rectangle shape mesh instead of traditional large mesh codend in inner layer. This piece of rectangle shape meshes was stitched on the codend at an angle and mantle a codend at the open door in posterior top. Moreover, a number of experiments that used the same mesh shape but with harden circle-frame and rectangle net with the same length of leg by putting transverse or vertical position were also carried out. The results obtained from analyzing the data of ten trip experiments suggested that the main target, sergestid shrimp can be caught normally and the bycatch species also can escape from the posterior open door when the mesh frame was installed at angle as 80¢X degree.
