Fishery surveys indicate that both Ludao and Lanyu used gillnet and drive-in net fishing for flyingfish, however the fishing pattern and specification of gears are different. For drive-in net which produced higher catches, the mesh size is smaller and manpower is larger for Lanyu and therefore the catch is higher. In fish composition, greater spotted and limpidwing flyingfishes are the major species and higher composition of greater spotted flyingfish was noted for Lanyu. Up to November, there are 7 genus 16 species of flyingfishes collected; among them, greater spotted, blackwing and limpidwing flyingfishes (large flyingfishes), and spotwing, fourwing and sailfin flyingfishes (small flyingfishes) are the dominant species in the Kuroshio current. Based on the samples collected, the ratio of fork length and total length were similar for all the dominant species, and female fishes were larger than male fishes. Length-weight relationships and GSI distributions have been preliminarily established from the samples. Marcaoalgae showed a decline in this year as compared to 2007-2008. It may reflects a changes in macraolgaal community and abundance in Ludao and Lanyu Island. |
