This study is aiming to investigate the biodiversity of the local fish community around Sheau-Liuchiu off southwestern Taiwan.
All of recorded specimens were 4,772 fish and belonged to 43 family 102 genus 208 species. The dominance index, evenness index, diversity index and richness index were then adopted to analyze the biodiversity of the fish community around the waters of Sheau-Liuchiu, southwestern Taiwan. In shells,we have collected 2523 specimens and grouped into 191 species, 69 genera, 34 families.I crustaceans, there were 2688 specimens recognized as 77 species, 45 genera, 18 families.
Subtidal macroalgal abundance and species compositions were determined in the northwestern and sourthwestern Hsiao-Lu-Chiao in February and September 2006. Twenty-four species of 6 chlorophytes, 3 phaeophytes and 15 rhodophytes were identified. The species number, diversity and evenness of macroalgae in southwestern site were the same with in northwestern site ,but %cover in southwestern site was higher than in northwestern site. The data of hierarchical cluster, ANOSIM test and MDS indicate that macroalgal assemblage is different between 2 sampling sites and between 2 seasons. Hypnea charoides and Boodlea composite are the most important species that separates September assemblage from February assemblage and separates southwestern site assemblage from northwestern site assemblage. Seasonal variation of plankton biodiversity was studied in the waters around Hisao Liu Chiao island from February 2005 to August 2006. In total, 266 phytoplankton species belonging to 84 genera were identified. 136 copepod species belonging to 39 genera were recognized. 151 species of fish larvae belonging to 82 genera were identified. 43 siphonophran species belonging to 20 genera were identified. The abundance of plankton showed apparent seasonal changes, higher in spring and summer and lower in autumn and winter. The abundance of plankton was generally higher in surface water than in deeper water, and lower abundance than in this year. |
