The objective study is to conduct the tagging research for Pacific bigeye tuna and southern bluefin tuna in Indian Ocean. Environmental data including remote sensing and IRI data base will be used to find the correlation between the migratory route and marine environmental factors. The tagging experiment was carried out by Scientific observers on the sea
for both species. In addition, tagging on bigeye tuna will be also conducted by the researchers on charter boats. Based on the tagging recapture, the stock identification, the estimation of life history parameters, the finding of migratory route will be obtained for bigeye tuna and southern bluefin tuna and the correlation between the migratory route to marine environmental factors. The preliminary results indicated that 50 southern bluefin tuna were tagged in the waters of 72.28°E－89.39°E, 29.34°S－34.17°S and the fork length ranges between 80cm to 110cm. 25 bigeye tuna were tagged in the waters of 136.44°W－ 149.20°W, 02.41°S－03.42°N. The fork length and weight ranges of bigeye tuna between 104 cm－120 cm and 23kg－36kg respectively. In addition, the 5 bigeye tunas were tagged with Pop up tag in the waters ranges between 121°E－121.53°E, 22.50°N－22.54°N and the fork length ranges between 106cm－129cm. |
