The database for estimating the greenhouse-gas emissions from fishing crafts is strengthened in this project to improve the estimating programming system. The basic information and fuelling information of fishing crafts in 2007 are sorted and added to the database. A new fishing-catch database is establichished and the history information of fishing catch is added. New web pages for inquiring greenhouse-gas emissions from fishing crafts are added to improve the dynamic interface leading to convenient inquiry.
A revision on the estimating method of GHG from fishing crafts is made according to the revised emission factors suggested by IPCC 2006. The GHG emissions from fishing crafts are re-estimated for the years from 1990 to 2006. The 2007 GHG inventory from fishing crafts is established. The fishing-fuel consumption in 2007 drops down to a level of 821 million liters, reaching the lowest value since 1983. The GHG emission from fishing crafts in 2007 is 2,197 Gg or 0.599 million metric tonne of carbon equivalent.
The relevance of fishing fuel consumption and fishing catch is studied for different fishery categories. The amount of annual fishing fuel consumption is the lowest among the latest 3 years, while the quantity of fishing catch is the highest. The average fishing fuel consumption per unit catch value of gill-net fisheries decreases dramatically in 2007. The annual fishing fuel consumption of trawl fisheries decreases in 2007, but the cost of fishing fuel is approximately equivalent to the value of fishing catch.
The age distribution and annual fishing fuel consumption are analyzed. The annual GHG emission from fishing crafts might be reduced by 5.1%, if all fishing crafts over 35 years of age were dismissed from its fishing duty. |
