The aim of this project is to determine the biodiversity around the waters of Hsiao-Lu-Chiao by the comparison of its current and past status. In crustaceans, there were 4194 specimens recognized as 94 species, 49 genera, 18 families with the two dominance species Calcinus lateens and C. laevimanus in two hotspots, separately. In shells, we have collected 4832 specimens and grouped into 212 species, 73 genera, 38 families. The varieties of the community structure in shells and crustaceans depend on the habitat rather than the changes of seasons and years. Seasonal variation of plankton biodiversity was studied in the waters around Hisao Liu Chiao island from February 2005 to October 2008. In total, 269 phytoplankton species belonging to 86 genera were identified, 148 copepod species belonging to 21 families and 41 genera were recognized, 197 species of fish larvae belonging to 69 families and 101 genera were identified, and 46 siphonophoran species belonging to 8 families and 22 genera were identified. The abundance of plankton showed apparent seasonal changes, higher in spring and summer and lower in autumn and winter. The inventory list of macroalgae from 2004-2008 has been done. In 2008, we have recorded 61 species with 11 chlorophytes, 13 phaeophytes, and 37 rhodophytes. Macroalgal species and %cover showed season, site and depth differences. The %cover is 1 m > 5 m > 10 m. Although %cover is highest for 1 m, species number is less in 1 m mainly due to the limitation by high temperature and excess light. In the areas of 10 m-depth, %cover is less probably due to the grazing by seaurchin. |
