In this project, the compartment structures in fishing vessels are deigned to have the features of less weight and fire resistance performances. In general, fire retardant slab or coating is used as a fire resistance layer in the structure. Fire retardant slab gives the weight of vessel with the properties of rigidity and high specific gravity. On the surface of cured FRP the pores are hardly formed. The bad performance quality of porosity gives less adhesive force between FRP and fire-retardant Coating when it is painted on FRP surface. The coating is easily peeled off from FRP to fail the effectiveness contributed from fire-retardant coating. In this project, using fire-retardant Coating, a fire resistance structure is developed with the features of less weight, energy saving and low cost.
A 3mm glass fiber mat is attached on the surface of uncured glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) laminated with glass fibers and unsaturated polyester resins. The glass fiber mat can be adhered on the cured GFRP. Liquid fire retardant material is sprayed on the up-side of the mat and soaked in the internal fibers of the mat. Then, fire retardant coating is painted. The implementing process is suitable for curved hull and bulkhead of compartments. For different fire resistance performances, distinct layers of mats are designed. The implementing process is analogue to the process of GFRP. With low costs of material of mats and implementing process, this fire resistance structure is built for economic requirement. |
