China share 19.4% of the global population, hence, all the world is keep eyes and concerned about Chinese food consumption. Since 1978, China starts a series of economic reform, which results in rapid economic growth, significant increase in per capita income and consumption levels. It drives Chinese residents increased food expenditures and protein demand. ?The developments of China's fishery industry not only enable China to become the world's main production sites of fishery products, are also important fishery product consumption country. ?China fishery output is high, but imports still higher than the volume of exports, and the major imported fishery products are raw materials, resulting in China fishery products have a high yield and low consumption. ?As the economy improves, the future consumption level of fishery products of China can be expected as quantity and quality equally important. ?As Taiwan in expanding fishery products to their international markets, expanding across the Chinese market is a haul of short shortcuts. What fish species exported to China? ?What’s China perception on Taiwan fishery products and preference for that? ?What the effects on Taiwan fishery industry after signed the ECFA?
The purposes of this study are:
1.???? Explore the production and consumption patterns of China fishery products; and analysis the important factors of impact of Chinese seafood consumption;
2.???? Estimate the Chinese food demand system; and analyse the importance of Chinese fishery products on food, and expolore the price elasticity and expenditure elasticity of different income group of fishery products;
3.???? Through the questionnaire surveys, analysis China's urban residents’ seafood consumption behavior, the preference to Taiwan fishery products and the market obstacles;
4.???? Analysis of signed ECFA, tariff reduction on relevant fishery industry;
5.???? Hold an expert discussion meeting, to discuss the relationship between China fishery products consumption pattern and how to explore our China market.
The results of this study show that:
1.???? China fishery products with high production and low consumption pattern, the proportion of aquaculture and fishing (catch) around 73: 27. Consumption patterns with great regions and urban and rural differences. Coastal towns’residents on fishery products with high demand for high quality; Midwest and rural residents with low seafood consumption, but their demand of potential market is huge. Outdoor consumption of fishery products are increasing;
2.???? The demand for food of China's urban residents shows the expenditures and consumption of fishery products is increasing with income enhancement; the expenditure elasticity of fishery products for high income group of consumer is 1.039. ?Different income groups show significant difference on the structure of food consumption, but each income group shows very sensitive to price response to fishery products;
3.???? The results of consumption behavior survey of fishery products to Shanghai residents show: They don’t know much of Taiwan fishery products, but considered as imports and health safety. Experts suggest that Taiwan can provide medium to high-grade quality of aquaculture products or processed products to China, pricing can be slightly higher than the comparable inland fishery products sales price;
4.???? The major benefits of Taiwan fisheries after signing ECFA are to create a marketing opportunities and to establish a formal marketing pipeline for Taiwan fisheries. It might have a positive long-term benefit for for the development of Taiwan fisheries industry. |
