This study will collect and compile the fishery data of Taiwanese distant-water longline fleets in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the catch information of billfishes caught by these fleets. The catch-rates of the North Pacific swordfish and striped marlin and Pacific and Atlantic blue marlin will be standardized using generalized linear models to provide basic input data for stock assessments. Moreover, the fishery data for North Pacific striped marlin and Atlantic blue marlin for the main fleets using the resources will be collected, as well as life history information including biological parameters for the two species. Stock assessments of North Pacific striped marlin and Atlantic blue marlin will be conducted using population dynamics models to assess the stock status and provide scientific support for fishery management, in order to achieve the goal of sustainable use of the resources. |
