The aim of this three-year project is to evaluate the effectiveness of Taiwan’s 26 "Fishery Resources Conservation Zones" by investigating the composition, distribution, and abundance or coverage of marine organisms living in the Conservation Zones. In the second year (2011), we will carry on eight conservation zones in north, north-east, and south regions (Wan-Li, Ji-Long, Gong-Liao, Tou-Cheng, Su-Ao, Liu-Ciu, Che-Cheng Fishery Conservation Zone, and Fishery Conservation Zone of National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium). The investigation includes collecting relevant information and background data, and conducting environmental and biological surveys on the conservation zones. We will interview fishermen and stakeholders on each conservation zones. Finally, we will evaluate the current status of fishery conservation zones and their target species, and recommend new conservation strategies and restoration methods. |
