This project aims to design a four-year program of “Growth of Blue Economy in Coastal Taiwan” proposed by the Fisheries Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. Firstly, there are four[apparently there are more than four!] major aspects to promote a stable and sustainable growth of coastal fisheries resource, including incubation of healthy fish larvae1, selection of an appropriate nursing grounds for fish species to be released2, release of healthy fish larvae from artificial propagation3, protection and conservation of fishing grounds of the released and wild fish species4, avoidance of overfishing5, and prevention of disease problems caused by coastal aquaculture6. Secondly, this project plans to use LNG drainage in the aquaculture system for cold-water fish species preferred by Taiwanese and in the marine farming system for yellowfin tuna. This creative, green, and high-quality aquaculture technology could effectively reduce the dependence of aquaculture on fresh water and land sources as well as the high-cost of energy. The overall goal of this project is to transfer the traditional primary production of capture fisheries and aquaculture to a multidisciplinary industry enriched with domestic characterization by well-founded coordination among bio-technology, resources technology, engineering, and socio-economy, hence forming the corridor of blue economy. This project intends not only to bring new hotspots for coastal fisheries communities, but also to encourage the home-coming of young generations and investors and stimulate the development of special coastal domestic industries. |
