Marine aquaculture fish cages have been suffered the environmental impacts such as winds, waves, currents and sunshine heating so that the mooring systems of net cages system are frequently suffering material fatigue or abrasion problems. Especially, the connection parts between shackles and rings are seriously wearing away due to the cyclic motions of net cages in the open sea. If a fish farm manager ignored the maintenance works, it may cause an irrevocable hazard to the owner, e.g. the whole system washed away. This study focuses on the improvement on materials of the cage system. And, at first this task working group will collect the information of the material fatigue issues including published papers and field trips, then analyze the factors causing such problems, and then seeking appropriate alternatives for connection parts or direct improving the current connection method. The main objective is to develop durable materials for cage farmers in order to prolong the life time of cage systems. |
