1. China lifts import ban on Taiwan beltfish, mackerel
China on March 15th lifted its ban on imports of fresh chilled beltfish and frozen Atlantic horse mackerel from Taiwan amid an easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), said in a statement. In response, Wang Cheng-fang, a deputy director-general of Taiwan's Fisheries Agency under the Council of Agriculture (COA), confirmed that the COA has received the relevant documents regarding the move by Beijing. Wang said the COA is happy to see that China complies with international standards by lifting the ban.
2. Imported eggs to be sold at NT$65 for 10 eggs: COA
The 5 million imported eggs Taiwan expects to have taken delivery of by the end of this month will be sold through supermarkets at a price of NT$65 (US$2.11) for a 10-egg box, the Council of Agriculture (COA)r said on March 15th. Meanwhile, Chiang Wen-chuan, deputy head of the Department of Animal Industry under the COA, said the council will cover all the derivative costs of the import process, including those for the packaging and labeling of imported eggs.
