1.Taiwan, U.S. discuss sustainable fishing activities
On July 13th, Taiwan and the United States held discussions on the preservation of marine resources and the possibility of Taiwan's participation in international fisheries organizations, according to the Fisheries Agency. The forum, held under the Taiwan-US Fisheries Consultations, was jointly organized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the agency said.During the consultations, which were held in Taipei for the first time since 2018, the U.S. promised to assist Taiwan in its efforts to gain international participation, while Taiwan pledged to abide by its obligations regarding international conservation of fisheries resources, the Fisheries Agency said.
2.Truffle species discovered in eastern Taiwan named 'Tuber taitung'
A black truffle species native to Taiwan discovered in Taimali, a mountainous area of Taitung County, has been named "Tuber taitung", the governmental Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) said. According to the TFRI, Tuber taitung was found at the lowest land point of all the truffle species discovered on the island so far, and this low-altitude habitat makes it suitable for research and artificial cultivation.
