- MOA announces measures to amend agricultural damage caused by Typhoon Khanun:
To promptly assist recovery from agricultural damages and losses caused by typhoon Khanun, MOA (Ministry of Agriculture) announces several major measures: First, the application procedures of emergency bailouts will be simplified and give priority to assisting in post-disaster restoration. Second, MOA provides low-interest loans and starts technical guidance and counseling service. It is reported that the three administrative areas that sustained the greatest losses were Nantou County, Miaoli County and Taichung City.
- Researchers spot leopard cats in new Tainan area:
Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency announces on August 9 that an endangered leopard cat was recently observed in Tainan, marking the species' first sighting in the city in 17 years and the southernmost sighting in Taiwan's recent history. The finding has extended the area that leopard cats potentially live in southward.
