- MOA to take measures against economic impacts of PRC mango ban:
China’s announcement on August 21 that it had suspended imports of mangoes from Taiwan with immediate effect, the Ministry of Agriculture said it would take up the matter with the WTO’s Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Committee, and now that the production season is coming to an end, China’s suspension of Taiwan’s mango imports has limited impact. MOA also pointed out that this year’s Taiwan’s mango exports to China accounted for only 2.2% of the total production. The main markets for Taiwan’s mangoes are Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
