1.Taiwan Fishing Boat Involved in Killing Dolphins to Attract Sharks for Better Catch
A 67-year-old captain surnamed Wu from Pingtung County, while operating offshore last year, instructed foreign crew members to catch and slaughter a second-class protected dolphin. The blood was then used to attract sharks to increase the catch. Recently, the Pingtung District Prosecutor's Office detained seven foreign crew members from the distant-water fishing boat and summoned Captain Wu for questioning. After the interrogation, Captain Wu was released on bail with a NT$100,000 bond and restricted from leaving the country and sea. The seven foreign crew members were also restricted from leaving the country and sea. The Fisheries Agency stated that the boat operators could be fined between NT$500,000 and NT$2.5 million.
