1.President Tsai's 2023 New Year Day's address
President Tsai Ing-wen delivered her 2023 New Year's Day address on January 2nd. Not only does Tsai address the impacts of extreme weather events, but she mentioned that the government will expand investment in infrastructure projects by our agricultural agencies and complete them ahead of schedule. Tsai also said that the government will improve and accelerate the construction on environmental infrastructure for agriculture. Moreover, it will expand the “Green Environmental Payment Program” as well as “agricultural insurance” and occupational injury coverage for farmers, and increase related coverage and payouts.
2. Fisheries Agency went to foreign ports for labor inspections to protect the rights of the migrant fishers in all aspects
In order to systematically improve the labor rights of migrant fishers who work on Taiwanese distant-water fishing vessels and to increase the coverage of labor inspection of distant-water fishing vessels, Fisheries Agency (TFA) has conducted labor inspections at Port Louis of Mauritius and Port Majuro of Marshall Islands in December, 2022. During this two-week period of inspection, 9 fishing vessels were inspected and 49 migrant fishers were interviewed.
