The Ministry of Agriculture announced the results of a telephone survey estimating the number of pet dogs and cats nationwide for the year 2023. The estimated number of pet cats nationwide is 1,311,449, representing a significant 50% increase from the 870,801 recorded in 2020. The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the survey results generally reflect international trends, with the increase in urbanization leading to a rise in the number of cat owners, indicating a more diverse range of pet species owned by the public. Therefore, adjustments in government administrative management are necessary to accommodate changes in the types of pets owned by the public.

Regarding recent media reports of a significant increase in blackfin tuna catch with a price as low as 70 NTD per kilogram, the Fisheries Agency stated that this particular case represents products not suitable for raw consumption and cannot reflect the overall market price.
