1. Ministry of Agriculture Coordinates with Farmers' Groups to Release Affordable Cabbages
Recently, vegetable prices have remained high. Minister of Agriculture Chen Jun-ji stated that the main reason is the impact of three consecutive typhoons this year, which hindered replanting. It is expected that vegetable prices will stabilize by the end of this year and before the Lunar New Year. The Ministry of Agriculture will also coordinate with farmers' groups to release affordable vegetables, mainly cabbages, for sale in chain supermarkets for the public. Regarding fruits for the Lunar New Year, such as honey dates and citrus fruits, the Ministry plans to provide guidance to diversify fruit supply as alternatives.
2. Fisheries Agency Encourages Fishermen to Actively Purchase Temperature Parameter-based Insurance
As the weather turns colder, the Fisheries Agency reminds aquaculture farmers to strengthen cold protection measures for their fish and encourages those in need to consider purchasing temperature parameter-based insurance to help mitigate farming risks. The agency explained that in 2024, insurance companies are offering four types of temperature parameter-based policies for species such as grouper, tilapia, bass, and snakehead fish. These policies primarily cover regions in central and southern Taiwan. The policy terms state that compensation will be triggered if the temperature measured at a meteorological observation station falls below 10°C (including 10.0°C) for over 10 hours. The sales period runs from now until December 15, 2024.
