1.Applications Open for the 4th Golden Promotion Awards: Boosting Innovation in Agriculture and Fisheries
The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that applications for the 4th Golden Promotion Awards and the 2026 Outstanding Agricultural Education and Extension Personnel are open from now until May 15, 2026. This prestigious award aims to recognize the vital role of agricultural and fisheries associations in modernizing the industry, enhancing management capabilities, and promoting rural sustainability. In alignment with the "Happy Rural Vision" from the 6th National Agricultural Congress, this year’s awards have been expanded to include fisheries associations for the first time. By honoring exemplary organizations and individuals, the Ministry seeks to establish industry benchmarks and showcase the contribution of these associations to Taiwan’s agricultural development. Through these awards, the government continues to foster professional talent, preserve traditional farming knowledge, and integrate resources to build a more resilient and livable rural society.
2. Guarding Fishery Human Rights: Inter-Ministerial Labor Inspections Launched on FOC Vessels
To safeguard migrant fishers' rights and uphold international labor standards, the Fisheries Agency spearheaded a joint inter-ministerial inspection of the Flag of Convenience (FOC) vessel Indian Tuna No. 9 at Qianzhen Fishing Port. The operation involved multi-agency coordination to audit labor contracts, wages, and working hours through professional interviews, while simultaneously inspecting on-board living conditions and safety equipment. The government will mandate rectifications for any violations and engage diplomatic channels to ensure flag-state accountability. This initiative underscores Taiwan's commitment to normalizing maritime supervision, eradicating forced labor, and ensuring dignity for all seafarers.
