- Taiwan to monitor seafood as acting on Japan’s radioactive water release:
As the Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) which runs the tsunami-wrecked Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant started releasing the treated wastewater from Aug. 24, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration and Fisheries Agency, Ministry of Agriculture have been monitoring the levels of tritium in seafood, and will enhance to test 3000 samples a year, including Japanese mackerel, Pacific saury, eels, oysters, scallops, salmon, octopus, and seaweed. So far all the samples were below the minimum detectable activity.
- Taiwan-Japan Fruit Festival showcases fruit trade partnership:
Ministry of Agriculture has been expanding export channels, leading to Japan becoming Taiwan’s largest export market last year. The ministry is continuing to improve traceability management, disease prevention and inspection, and cold-chain transportation of Taiwanese fruit to increase its international compatibility. On Aug. 26 and 27, the two countries celebrated these ties with a fruit festival.
