1. Strengthening Taiwan's Presence in the U.S. Sustainable Seafood Market: Successful Transformation of the Hsin-Kang mahi-mahi FIP
Taiwan Hsin-Kang mahi-mahi Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) is required to undergo a review by the U.S. Fishery Progress (FP) every six months to assess progress and effectiveness. Through the continuous joint efforts of the Fisheries Agency, academia, and the industry, the evaluation grade for the Hsin-Kang mahi-mahi FIP in Taiwan has been upgraded from a basic level to a comprehensive A grade this year. Additionally, Taiwanese mahi-mahi dishes were featured on the menu for the 113th U.S. Double Oak Garden Double Tenth National Day reception, marking a significant step forward for Taiwanese swordfish in the international sustainable seafood market.
2. Hualien Port Implements Partial Sea Area Restrictions for Anti-Ship Missile Deployment
On October 14th, the Chinese military conducted the "Joint Sword-2024B" exercises targeting Taiwan, deploying Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missiles at Hualien Port. Certain areas of the port are now restricted, but fishing operations continue as normal. Fishermen have been informed through fishery radio broadcasts and social media to avoid entering hazardous waters.
