1. Cabinet plans rule limiting 'fresh' label to Taiwan-produced milk
The Executive Yuan, Taiwan's highest administrative organ, has decided to introduce law amendments that will only allow Taiwan-produced milk to be labeled "fresh" (鮮), an official responsible for food safety said on March 14. The government also explained the planned measures to foreign representatives at the meetings indicating that the main point is to ensure Taiwan meets international standards, rather than create trade barriers. Nearly 95 percent of Taiwan's dairy farmers have obtained Taiwan-produced fresh milk certification, and the Office of Food Safety will assist other local dairy farmers to obtain the certification and maintain competitiveness.
2. Taiwan Pavilion Makes a Grand Debut at Tokyo Food Show
The 2025 Tokyo International Food Expo (FOODEX JAPAN 2025) opened on March 11th at the Tokyo Big Sight. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), 14 local governments, and 11 food industry associations, jointly organized the "Taiwan Pavilion" under the unified "TAIWAN SELECT" brand to promote Taiwanese products. The Tokyo Food Expo is Asia's largest professional food exhibition, and this year, the Taiwan Pavilion has achieved a record-high participation scale, becoming the second-largest exhibiting country at the event, attracting attention from buyers across Asia. Taiwanese exhibitors presented newly developed food products, such as those combining traditional local snacks with instant convenience, allowing consumers to enjoy authentic Taiwanese cuisine anytime and anywhere.
