1.Additional pork imports an option amid recent price rises: COA
Taiwan does not rule out the possibility of importing more pork amid rising prices, the Council of Agriculture (COA) said on April 5th after the hog trading price in Taiwan reached a record-high of NT$99.03 (US$3.2) per kilogram. According to Chiang Wen-chuan, deputy head of the COA's Department of Animal Industry, the government retains the option of importing more pork if and when necessary.
2.Park ordered to improve baboon management
Leofoo Village Theme Park was given one month to improve its baboon facility and six months to finish microchipping and registering its baboons, the Council of Agriculture’s (COA) Forestry Bureau said on April 2nd, following a public outcry over the killing of a runaway baboon. The order came after Agricultural Technology Research Institute president Chen Cheng-wen, bureau officials, animal caretakers from Taipei Zoo and academics carried out an inspection at the facility.
