1.Taiwan to import eggs from Singapore for first time
Taiwan will import fresh and liquid eggs from Singapore for the first time ever, to help ease its ongoing shortage of the food staple, industry sources and Taiwanese officials said. Taiwan has been experiencing an egg shortage since early this year. To make up for the shortfall, COA has been trying to ramp up egg imports, while also taking steps such as importing breeder chickens, to help local farms increase production.
2. British sailor rescued by Taiwan fishing vessel in Atlantic Ocean
A sailor onboard a British sailing boat was rescued by a Taiwanese fishing vessel after it was found to be in danger in the high seas of the southwest Atlantic Ocean on April 11, Taiwan's Fisheries Agency said. The incident happened while the Puffin sailing boat was 729 nautical miles northeast of Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, with cracks found in its mast, which prevented the boat from being navigated, the agency said in a press statement.
