1.Taiwan's agricultural exports to U.S. to benefit from trade pact: COA
Taiwan's government said that the first agreement it and the United States finalized under the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade will facilitate some agricultural exports to the U.S. Among those goods that will gain quicker access to the U.S. market are moth orchids and guavas, each reaching US$64.6 million and US$248,000 in export value last year, the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture (COA) said. Thanks to an introduction of digital declaration and a streamlined system under the deal, those goods and products with a short shelf life will be allowed to clear customs faster, the COA said.
2. Video Record of the Spawning of Silver Anchovy in Penghu Waters for the First Time
In 2022, the Fisheries Research Institute was commissioned by the Penghu County Government to conduct a dynamic investigation of silver anchovy resources in Penghu Waters. During the underwater investigation conducted in Chihkan territorial waters in Paisha Township, Penghu County, the spawning of silver anchovy was the first video recorded at a depth of 15 meters in the North Sea of Penghu. The investigation results can provide Taiwan’s government with the opportunity to adjust existing management regulations and promote the sustainable use of resources.
