1. New process for inbound migrant domestic and fishery workers begins 2023
Foreign domestic helpers and family-based caregivers entering Taiwan are to be subject to a new arrivals process since 2023, after a one-stop service integrating several applications from employers and brokerage firms is launched on December 2022, the Ministry of Labor said. The one-stop service is expected to cover around 50,000 migrant domestic helpers and family-based caregivers and their employers annually, and will next be extended to fishery workers, the Ministry of Labor added.
2. Taiwan, Japan to hold first fisheries meeting since 2019
Taiwan and Japan are scheduled to hold a round of fisheries meetings later this month, which will be the first such talks since having been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, in an attempt to resolve fisheries-related disputes between the two countries in overlapping waters, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) official said on January 10th .
